This is a true bush lodge, complete with an elegant safari dining area, and boma area ideal for languid evenings spent around the campfire.

About the camp

Mankwe Bush Lodge is a solar-powered camp, greatly reducing its impact on the surrounding environment. The ten, tented suites are privately located among the mopane trees, and the main area of the lodge, containing lounge, bar, and dining area, is centrally located.

A fireplace is built in the main boma area, creating a place of gathering for guests before and after dinner, while the adjacent lounge is a spacious, shaded place to relax with a book.

Meal times are a convivial and scrumptious affair in the dining tent, after a traditional drum beat calls guests to the table.

There are no fences around the lodge or tented units, making Mankwe a true ‘bush lodge’. Elephants roam freely, as do other animals, and guests are advised not to wander around camp at night.

Location

Mankwe Bush Lodge is located on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, renowned World Heritage Site in Botswana. The border of the Moremi Game Reserve lies a stone’s throw to the west of Mankwe, while Chobe National Park is slightly north, and Maun is only two hours south, by road.

The lodge is nestled in a prime location in its own 300 000 hectare concession, shared with sister lodge, Tuskers Safari Camp. This is a prestigious territory in the wild wonderland of Botswana, where the lack of fences allows for free-roaming wildlife, resident lions, an abundance of elephants, and incomprehensible room to explore.

Getting There

Self-drivers travelling from Maun Airport will exit Maun, following the tar road in the direction of Mababe on the Seretse Khama road. Just keep heading north through the town on this road - it curves east and crosses the Thamalakane River, and then comes to a traffic circle. Take the first exit heading towards Shorobe.

From the traffic circle, when heading North, its 27km to Shorobe. As you go through Shorobe you leave the tar road behind and go on to a gravel road to Mawana Gate (Buffalo veterinary fence), which is roughly 18 kms. From the gate you proceed straight until you reach the "fork" in the road. Keep right and follow the road to Sankuyo Village, which is roughly 25kms. From Sankuyo to the Mankwe turn off on your left hand side it is 5,5 km.

Turn left, and follow the road to the lodge which is roughly 2km.
