This is a true bush sanctuary complete with an elegant safari dining area and boma area ideal for languid evenings spent around the campfire.

About the camp

Mankwe Tented Retreat is a solar-powered camp, greatly reducing its impact on the surrounding environment. The main area comprises an open-plan lounge and bar area that flows through to the pool and deck area. Cocooned in a quiet corner is the main bar area - a popular place for guests to while away the time.

A fireplace is built in the main boma area, creating a place of gathering for guests before and after dinner, while the adjacent lounge is a spacious, place to relax with a book. The decor is fresh and light, with modern Scandinavian accents scattered throughout. Hanging plants and emerald foliage add a pop of colour to the area. The swimming pool offers a refreshing respite from the heat, while sun loungers adorn the wooden deck.

Meal times are a convivial and scrumptious affair, and generally take place under a canopy of stars in the boma area. There are no fences around the lodge or tented units, making Mankwe a true ‘sanctuary in the bush. Elephants roam freely, as do other animals, and guests are advised not to wander around camp at night.

Location

Mankwe Tented Retreat is located on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, a renowned World Heritage Site in Botswana.

The border of the Moremi Game Reserve lies a stone’s throw to the west of Mankwe, while Chobe National Park is slightly north, and Maun is only two hours south, by road.

The lodge is nestled in a prime location in its own 365 000 hectare concession dotted with pans and waterholes that brim with activity during the dry winter months.

This is a prestigious territory in the wild wonderland of Botswana, where the lack of fences allows for free-roaming wildlife, resident lions, an abundance of elephants, and incomprehensible room to explore.

The border of the Moremi Game Reserve lies a stone’s throw to the west of Mankwe, while Chobe National Park is slightly north, and Maun is only two hours south, by road.

Getting There

Self-drivers travelling from Maun Airport will exit Maun, following the tar road in the direction of Mababe on the Seretse Khama road. Just keep heading north through the town on this road - it curves east and crosses the Thamalakane River, and then comes to a traffic circle. Take the first exit heading towards Shorobe.

From the traffic circle, when heading North, it's 27km to Shorobe. As you go through Shorobe you leave the tar road behind and go on to a gravel road to Mawana Gate (Buffalo veterinary fence), which is roughly 18 kms.

From the gate you proceed straight until you reach the "fork" in the road. Keep right and follow the road to Sankuyo Village, which is roughly 25kms. From Sankuyo to the Mankwe turn off on your left hand side it is 5,5 km.

Turn left, and follow the road to the lodge which is roughly 2km.
